Maybe an upgrade starting with more recent firmware versions is simpler. Logically there s no need for Windows or FTP or Zip or burning software or writeable media. Sony should make the zipped ISO image available by HTTP, and provide free Windows media-burning software on the same page. Or perhaps enable updating from USB, which more people know how to use. Was very easy to install and create log in s with Netflix and Sony. You need to first create an account at Sony web site then go to Netflix and check a box in My Account to indicate you are streaming instant titles. When you boot up the Sony DVD player it gives you an activation code to enter in the Sony web site. Signing up and activation took about 5 min and immediately I could see my instant titles along with pictures of movies. When you click each title for television shows it goes to next page that lists all episodes you can watch. Streaming the movie or TV show was fast. It took about 15 seconds to start and there was NO lag or stops. Picture quality was standard def. TV quality. This is an excellent Blu-Ray player and I highly recommed it.
